Being awarded a Black Belt was one of the proudest days of my life, it was on the level of when I became a Military Policeman and met the Queen. The journey was both hard and enjoyable and I can say that I felt honoured after training in and teaching over 3500 classes before being considered for my grading to Black Belt. The journey taught me patience, humility, compassion, empathy, commitment and how to live a wonderful goal filled life. Now as a Sandan I can say that the journey never ends, the secrets will slowly be revealed and the wonders of this art will forever amaze and captivate me. Throughout my career I have learnt that the true Black Belt is worn not on the outside, but on the inside and is shown on the outside by your actions and the way you choose to live your life of honour and integrity.
